A great way to learn about Clubhouse Philosophy!

Vincent House Featured on TV during local PBS program

Up Close with Cathy Unruh features extraordinary individuals and topics that have made an impact on the West Central Florida community. Each half-hour program highlights personalities and topics with both broad and local appeal.  Past episodes have explored issues such as healthcare, animal rights, adoption and mental illness, as well as spotlighting local arts and culture efforts.  Vincent House was featured on the June 2009 episode.

clubhouse philosophy

Vincent House, like all ICCD Clubhouses, rebuilds lives by focusing on wellness and abilities rather illness.  In a Clubhouse, participants are referred to as members, not patients.  Members and a limited staff work side-by-side to operate every aspect of the Clubhouse.

Membership is voluntary and considered lifetime. The Clubhouse is a place where members are treated with dignity and respect. Their participation is needed and valued by the Clubhouse community in order to maintain the daily operations. Membership is open to anyone that seeks recovery from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression or other severe and persistent mental illnesses.

All work in the clubhouse is real and meaningful - duties and tasks are intended to build

self-esteem and self-worth.

Workday

Members develop their skills and abilities through voluntary participation in the "Workday".  The Workday parallels normal Monday-Friday business work hours.  Members, at their choice, have the opportunity to work in the following capacities:

Business Unit:

Food Services / Horticulture Unit:

Menu planning, food purchasing, food preparation, safe food handling, Maitre' d, dining room servers, table setting, dishwashing, cashier, Snack Shop (Casey's Cafe), gardening and plant care.

Member Services Unit:

Carry-out and monitor job development and placement for  Transitional Employment (TE), Supported Employment (SE) and Independent Employment (IE) positions; maintain  TE, SE and IE Statistics; do transactions in Leisure (member) Bank; produce VHNS Video News Broadcast; assist with benefits planning, housing, education and community support; file applications for Bus Pass assistance; participate in Clubhouse advocacy; organize the enrollment and orientation of new members; and help organize the Florida ICCD Clubhouse Coalition.
